From APMWORLD

“Stolen from the Gold Coast is one of the most personal projects I’ve ever created. I was born in the Gold Coast, a place overflowing with history, culture, and creativity—but also a land that carries scars. For centuries, people, culture, and resources were stolen from here. The title of my project speaks to that loss, but it also reflects how I see myself: a talent stolen from my homeland, now carrying its stories to the world.

Through this body of work, I wanted to reclaim what was taken. My lens is not just about capturing images—it’s about restoring dignity, amplifying truth, and showing the beauty that has always lived in us despite erasure. Every frame is a response to the silence history tried to impose, and every story I tell is a piece of what was stolen, returned.

The journey of this project has carried me across continents, because the echoes of the Gold Coast are everywhere. I began in Ghana, tracing the roots of identity and memory. I carried the story to Costa Rica, where African heritage lives on in vibrant communities across the diaspora. In Nigeria, I found the rhythms, fashion, and spirit that connect West Africa to the world. And in New York and beyond, I documented how these histories and cultures have been reshaped into global influence through music, art, and resistance.

Stolen from the Gold Coast is about more than memory. It is about resilience. It is about identity. It is about how the spirit of Africa continues to shape global culture. For me, this project is both an archive and a vision—rooted in where I come from, but pushing toward what the future of African creativity can be.

When I look at this project, I don’t just see photographs. I see ancestors. I see strength. I see a reminder that no matter what was stolen, we still remain—and our voice is louder than ever.”
